Does the Government Recognize SIRVA ?

In a word—according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Yes.  At the CDC's 2019 Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Conference, presenters discussed a study showing a quantifiable association between deltoid bursitis and the flu shot among persons with no known pre-existing shoulder conditions.  Under the U.S. Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, this reaction is known as Shoulder Injury Related to Vaccine Administration, or SIRVA.  And it applies for other vaccines covered by the Program, not just the flu shot.

Further, under the Program, compensation may be awarded even if a shot is properly administered, meaning even if no one did anything wrong.  In other words, injury for SIRVA is assumed, under certain conditions, if the shoulder pain starts within 48 hours of the shot and continues for at least six months.
